Cryo-save India vs Life-cell international India

Deciding whether to save cord blood or not and with whome is not an easy choice. There is lot of text on the net listing possible diseases that can be cured, but mostly in future. Not having proper regulatory board and low standards of ethics for corporates in India doesn't help make that decission either. After some deliberations decided to go with life-cell international. Still not sure if that is the best choice. I will explain my observations and differences with these 2 companies when I get some time.

    2. Kumar,

Thanks for comments. I am very interested in hearing success and failure stories like the one you quoted. Please post if you have any news paper or any articles referencing that story and refrain from posting individual phone numbers. I am deleting it to avoid strangers calling that number and harassing.

  2. Hi,
Sorry for late reply. Wanted to use this space to write my experiences, but didn't really get hooked onto blogs.

    I can't say there were any strong points to choose or not to either of these. Few things that made me choose lifecell and my comments;

    1. Talked to sales guys before delivery. They can easily have negative impact if not done properly. usual mistakes lies and bad mouthing competitors.
    2. Most of these guys will come to hospital and collect. Protocol is, I got to call them before going to hospital. This is our second baby. Even then I wasn't sure if I would have enough time or mind to call them before going to hospital or from hospital. I wanted to choose what the hospital had tie up with. I think they called them. I forgot whether they had the collection bags or I had them. Process was smooth with lifecell for us.

    3. cryosave is local for us (bangalore). There aren't any real advantages or disadvantages as for as distance is concerned. I could go check their storage facility easily if I wanted to.

    4. One thing I was thinking about cryosave is they are renting that facility in whitefield. At some point they will have to move it to a different location. I am not comfortable with that idea. May be others also has the same problem and may be they will mess up during move and storage and not tell customers anything about it. Not a lot of trust on regulator or the companies as such.

    5. One of things I needed was ability to avail stored cells from US. Since lifecell has some tie up with US company, we thought it might be better bet. process is same with any of these. You got to call them to release and they will courier it.

    6. One thing I don't like about lifecell is after we took it, there isn't any communication. I wish they keep send us emails about any progress in research, their storage numbers and facility and any management changes.

Hope it's useful to people while making decision for cord-blood storage.

    1. Hi Hetvi,

We paid around 70k for 21 years storage with LifeCell. Looks like prices are down and you are getting good price.

Real feedback would be how do these companies respond when needed. There is not much information in public domain.

My complaint against lifecell is same. There is no communication what so ever after we took the plan and got certificate. Since it is new, it would help to keep customers aware of new developments and any facility changes and financial stability. I contacted them couple of times to change address. Not sure if it is even updated or not. One can open an account on their website, but that is for prospective customers and not for current. It's tough for me to recommend them based on my experience.

You will be fine with either of them. Go with your gut feeling and comfort I would say. Good luck and congratulations on new baby.

  6. Hi all, I had presentation from lifecell, cryosave, baby cell, Life cell guy is just marketing guy he does know about process of stem cell separation, finally I contacted the life cell call center for the details of the processing, He explained me about the process of Hespan a manual technology, when I goggled I found it is very old method of stem cell separation and it completely manual. they use strach in this process. I also came to know dual storage is no use at all as they are storing only 5ml at the second location, and most of the stem cell treatments required more than 5ml. one more point about Life cell is they said they had technology partnership with Cryo - cell of USA. Cro cell USA uses PrepaCyte® - CB method for stem cell separation from Life cell still uses the old manual method.

I did not look Cryobanks as when goggled I found the company is in financial problems and reponse is not proper for the existing customers.

Cryosave is Netherlands based company in banglore, they use latest sepax method. they save 20 ml and 5 ml in the banglore. cord life is also using the Sepax method for stemcell separation. sepax is from Biosafe, its not cord life patent, HES is not used in latest Sepax, but HES is used Sepax first version (I think I have read some where in the internet).

Baby cell is using the latest and best method PrepaCyte® - CB. presentation went in different way, the guy who came to me for presentation had more knowledge about the stem cell and its processing methods, from the internet I have found the PrepaCyte® - CB is best method in which more percentage of stem cell are extracted and removing 99% RBC, he explained me that only stem cell are insured, tisue cells are not insured and he said in India and most of countries tissue cell treatment is not allowed, permission may be given in coming years in india too. He said stemcells will be stored one 20 ml and four 1 ml sample packs, as FDA india will pick the random sample from the bank and check the sample, this will take place every 6 months. he also explained about statutory institutions which have accredited cord banks in India. They are having company REGROW, which is steamcell reaserch company in India.

More or less all are around 50000 rs for 21 years single payment

  14. Life cell has 37 successful cases around the world. I choosed life cell as being practical. My baby's expected delivery is by Jan 2016. Friends my suggestion is not to go with executive words. Go for results.

  15. Thanks Satyanarayana, Thanks for the valuable information. I am trying to decide between cryosave and cryobanks ..cryosave is around 55k and cryobank is just around 35K. Could you please suggest the advantages of going with Cryo-Save ?

  16. I went for lifecell because
    1. It uses Hespan which is same as cryo cell international. See their Wikipedia page of cryo cell international florida.
    2. Now the Hespan technology can get the rbc reduction to more than 95% which is higher than what is achieved by other companies like sepax 2
    3. Company run by R Thiyagarajan a padmabhusan awardee
    4. Plus more than 1.5 lakhs customers means no chance of shutting down.
    5. Medical benefit program
    6. Two labs both owned by company no third party lab.

  17. Pregnancy has been the best phase of my life till date, and I owe it all to Babycell! They not only answered all my cord blood banking queries, but also helped me with my pregnancy diet, exercise routines and some prenatal care sessions at home. I’ve recommended Babycell to almost all my expecting friends, and would recommend it to all the expecting ladies out there too!
